We Walked, and Walked...

We Walked, and Walked..., originally uploaded by Dar Moorhouse.
We certainly walked a lot today. From our hotel along Marine Dr near the Oak Street Bridge we walked up to Cambie Street and along to Queen Elizabeth Park. A total of ten kilometres for the round trip. The park is one of the nicer ones in town with a spectacular view towards city centre. The weather is perfect here too. Not something you find in Vancouver every day.

After we recovered from our long walk we got ready to take Erica to the airport so she could fly off to Calgary to visit her friend. This is her first time flying alone but I think she will be just fine. Tanya took her through into the secure area to make certain she had the correct gate and then left her as she was close to boarding her plane. On the other end she will be picked up by her friend's Mom. I think Erica is going to have loads of fun. Tomorrow it sounds like they will be attending the Calgary Stampede. My little girl is growing up (which is disturbing) but she is getting quite a few experiences in life already. She is such a great kid and I'll miss having her around over this next week.

We are off to Victoria tomorrow.

Family and Moving On

We've spent some time visiting family again this summer. Burns Lake and Prince George filled our days and tomorrow morning, bright and early we are heading further south to Victoria. I always forget how much I like B.C. until I come back for a visit, but I never forgot all the wonderful family down here that we don't get to see nearly enough.

Hopefully I can get some nice shots of our trip south through the Cariboo and down into the Frazer Canyon.

The Homestead

The Homestead, originally uploaded by Dar Moorhouse.
I'm remiss in my blog posts because we have been travelling south for holidays and I've put more effort into flickr and my photos (such as they are). Currently, we are in Burns Lake were the sun is finally warming the air. As we drove south the wind and rain followed us and we even skirted the snow as we topped Gnat Pass on the Stuart-Cassiar. But finally, sun.

On Sunday a bunch of us (twelve) headed out to the old homestead on Ootsa Lake where Tanya's grandma Alice did some growing up. It was begun in about 1910 but they were forced to move when Alcan gave them a "fair price" when the lake was flooded for a hydro project. The old house is still standing but his slowly developing a lean, and has been home to foxes and other small animals for years now. The view over the lake is spectacular but the wind blowing off the water is enough to cause the eyes to tear.

Tomorrow we will be heading off to Prince George to visit my family for a few days.
